Take off your makeup and let your ADD shine!
I began my life as an undercover ADDiva with my first tube of Maybelline mascara that I bought with furtively saved allowance, away from the disapproving eye of my mother (whom I later tutored in the fine art of not poking out an eye when applying the jet black lash builder). At the time, I thought I was merely transitioning to adulthood. But it was more than that.
Keeping ADHD meds in perspective
know it’s heresy for an ADHD coach to say this, but I semi-agree with her. Study after study shows that addiction rates actually fall dramatically when ADHD meds are prescribed and administered appropriately (e.g. a drop from 81% drug abuse to 23% which is near the rate for the general population).
But when your ADD has kept you up all night and you have to go to work, it’s awfully easy to pop an extra stimulant to wake up
Commitment vs ADHD
‘ve made a lot of commitments in my life. Lose weight. Get in shape. Write my book. Walk the dogs more often. Put money in savings. Go to bed early. Finish one project before I start another. You can see how my ADHD brain might rebel, or at least argue with, commitments like these.
To me, a commitment has always been BIG and SERIOUS and RIGID. Especially rigid.
Would you banish your ADD if you could?
If there was a little red pill that would instantly eliminate your ADHD – permanent and irreversible – would you take it?
That was the question posed on an online forum of ADD coaches recently and it caused quite a stir. The group was split about 50-50 on whether they would take it or not. Some excerpts:
ADD, depression and divorce
Q. I’ve had ADD all my life and am suffering with procrastination ! I have just lost a 30-year marriage and I feel so alone and lost … hopeless. Even with great friends and family support. Just had to move out of my house and into a townhouse and all I see is disorganization and pain. Is this depression or what? HELP – S.W.
A. What you’re experiencing is probably a combination of depression and ADD symptoms – but I am not a physician so can’t diagnose it for you. If you aren’t seeing a doctor about this, please do so. If it’s indicated, medication can make a world of difference.
Wellbutrin generic – bad news?
I’ve always worried that generic drugs aren’t quite as good as the brand name version and now there’s mounting evidence to prove it.
Wellbutrin XL 300 (Budeprion XL) works just fine for depression and many ADHD symptoms. But when some patients are switched to the generic formulation, they reported frightening symptoms: fast onset of severe depression and serious suicidal thoughts.
