Micro-filing for ADDivas

Erica, my dear friend and professional organizer, hates the way I file. Well, perhaps it’s not quite that strong an emotion, but she does shake her head at my complex filing system and (occasionally) sighs deeply.

I micro file, you see.

It’s the only way I can find things after I file them (this of course assumes that I actually force myself to endure the single most boring job in the universe: filing semi-important papers).

Would you banish your ADD if you could?

If there was a little red pill that would instantly eliminate your ADHD – permanent and irreversible – would you take it?

That was the question posed on an online forum of ADD coaches recently and it caused quite a stir. The group was split about 50-50 on whether they would take it or not. Some excerpts:

ADD, depression and divorce

Q. I’ve had ADD all my life and am suffering with procrastination ! I have just lost a 30-year marriage and I feel so alone and lost … hopeless. Even with great friends and family support. Just had to move out of my house and into a townhouse and all I see is disorganization and pain. Is this depression or what? HELP – S.W.

A. What you’re experiencing is probably a combination of depression and ADD symptoms – but I am not a physician so can’t diagnose it for you. If you aren’t seeing a doctor about this, please do so. If it’s indicated, medication can make a world of difference.

Wellbutrin generic – bad news?

I’ve always worried that generic drugs aren’t quite as good as the brand name version and now there’s mounting evidence to prove it.

Wellbutrin XL 300 (Budeprion XL) works just fine for depression and many ADHD symptoms. But when some patients are switched to the generic formulation, they reported frightening symptoms: fast onset of severe depression and serious suicidal thoughts.

ADHD women’s weekend retreat

Yep, it’s finally here!
Next Friday night (September 14 to be exact), we’ll welcome
a (small) cr0wd of ADDivas to the first ever ADDiva women’s
retreat at GardenSpirit Guesthouse in Durham, NC.

Will you be among them?

There are still spaces left,

Travelin ADHD style, Part 2

7) Use travel-tight screw lid bottles to pack only a week’s worth of shampoo, conditioner and other products. I refill them when I get back home so they are travel-ready again.

8) Anything that can spill inside my suitcase goes in plastic. My cosmetic bag is plastic-lined and I have several smaller plastic-lined bags for hair products, medication, hair dryer and brushes.

Money, money, money

You know, I started this blog with the intention of being transparent about my own ADD issues so that other women – ADDivas all – could open up and share themselves honestly, without shame.

Most of the time I can do that. But bring up the big M (Money, of course) and my inner ADDiva wants to run for the hills. It’s just not a topic that I like to discuss openly. Why? Because of the shame attached. And yes, it’s got ADD written all over it.
